Banque Misr reports growth as Tunisia faces economic shifts

Banque Misr reported significant growth for the fiscal year ending December 2025. The bank's total financial position reached 4.205 trillion Egyptian pounds, a 16% increase from 2024. Net profit rose by over 24% to 100.9 billion Egyptian pounds, while customer deposits grew 17% to 2.935 trillion Egyptian pounds.

In Tunisia, the banking sector is undergoing a structural shift. While credit distribution to the economy has slowed, the aggregate Net Banking Product (PNB) for the 12 listed banks is rising due to diversified revenue streams. Major players include BIAT, BNA, and Attijari Bank. Recent data from the first half of 2026 shows varying results among listed banks, with Amen Bank seeing the highest net profit growth, while others like Banque de l'Habitat and Banque Arabe de Tunisie reported declines or losses.

Tunisia's 2027 state budget aims to consolidate economic growth, curb inflation, and stabilize the dinar. Projections suggest debt service costs may decrease to approximately 20 billion dinars in 2027. However, economists warn of rising inflation, which reached 5.6% in September 2026, predicting it could exceed 6% in early 2027. This may pressure the Central Bank of Tunisia to adjust its 7% key interest rate.
