Tunisian mineral water producers deny price increases
Lassaâd Mzah, President of the National Chamber of Non-Alcoholic Beverage Producers, has denied any increase in the production costs of bottled mineral water. He stated that the price hikes observed in the market are being driven exclusively by distributors and both wholesale and retail merchants.
Mzah called on the economic control brigades of the Ministry of Commerce to intervene against these illegal price increases. He also noted that market supply has returned to normal levels, aided by lower temperatures and a more stable electricity supply at manufacturing plants, which has reduced production disruptions.
Lotfi Riahi, President of the Tunisian Organization for Informing the Consumer, echoed these concerns, urging authorities to crack down on speculators. Riahi criticized merchants who exploited recent shortages to inflate profit margins, noting there is no justification for the price increases given the improved distribution rhythm.
