Tunisian opposition figure Raşid Gannuşi's health and whereabouts unknown amid prison heat

Raşid Gannuşi, an 85‑year‑old leader of Tunisia's Nahda Movement, has been detained in Mornaguia prison since April 2023. His daughter, Sümeyye Gannuşi, says he suffered a fainting episode after being exposed to temperatures exceeding 50 °C inside the facility and was subsequently taken to a hospital.

The family and his legal team have been barred from visiting him, and authorities have provided no information on his current location or condition. Human‑rights organisations are demanding an urgent public statement and access to medical care, while Tunisia's Prison and Reform Authority asserts that health services in its facilities meet international standards.
