Tunisian Parliament prioritizes land and investment reforms

As the new parliamentary session begins in Tunisia, the commission for strategic planning and infrastructure is prioritizing several legislative reforms. Saber Jelassi, the commission president, announced that key objectives include finalizing two civil aviation agreements and revising the investment code. The legislative agenda also covers transport laws and land regularization, specifically addressing real estate built without permits and the conversion of agricultural land for other uses.

Concurrently, concerns regarding urban planning and infrastructure have been raised by Assembly Finance Commission President Maher Ketari. Ketari highlighted that recent flooding in areas like Sidi Bou Saïd is not merely a result of heavy rainfall but is exacerbated by inadequate drainage networks and unregulated urbanization. He noted that promised large-scale infrastructure works in Sidi Bou Saïd have failed to commence as scheduled, leaving sensitive areas vulnerable to landslides and water accumulation.
