Tunisian Science Institute Sets Mawlid 2026 Date for August 25
The Cité des sciences de Tunis used telescope observations to calculate the lunar crescent that will mark the start of Rabiʿ al‑Awal 1448 (the Islamic month in which Mawlid falls). The central lunar conjunction is expected on 12 August 2026 at 18:37 local time, and the new moon should be observable on 13 August 2026, making Friday 14 August the first day of Rabiʿ al‑Awal. Consequently, the celebration of Mawlid – the birth of the Prophet Muhammad – will be on Tuesday 25 August 2026 (12 Rabia al‑Awal 1448). The institute reminded that the Diwan Al‑Ifta (Cabinet of the Mufti) is the official authority to announce Islamic months and holidays, and noted that most Muslim countries have set the start of Safar on 16 July 2025, aligning with the Tunisian calculations.
