Tunisia’s automotive sector marks 60 years and TAA’s 10th anniversary
On 3 June 2026 the Tunisian Automotive Association (TAA) hosted a gala in a north‑Tunis hotel to celebrate both the association’s first decade and six decades of the country’s automotive industry. The event, themed “60 years of heritage – 10 years of acceleration”, brought together government officials, industry leaders and international partners.
Speakers highlighted the sector’s rapid growth: automotive exports rose from €624 million in 2010 to nearly €4 billion in 2025, averaging 16 % annual growth since 2018, with projections above €4.2 billion for 2026. Employment expanded from about 80 000 jobs in 2018 to over 120 000 today across more than 300 companies. Training initiatives such as the Tunisian Automotive Management Academy have certified roughly 3 000 professionals, reinforcing the emphasis on skills, innovation and global value‑chain integration.
The association’s 2022 competitiveness pact with the state, backed by partners like GIZ, AFD and CDC, underpins plans to embed startups into the industry and pursue industrial‑scale solutions. The celebration underscored Tunisia’s intent to shift from a fragmented producer to a coordinated, technology‑driven automotive ecosystem.
