Tunisia approves 2026-2030 development plan with 4.2% growth target

Tunisia's Council of Regions and Districts approved the full 2026‑2030 national development plan, confirming the parliamentary vote earlier in July. The plan was adopted with 56 votes in favour, six against and five abstentions, following the Assembly of People's Representatives' earlier approval of 64‑24‑15.

The five‑year roadmap aims for an average annual growth of about 4.2 %, a gradual reduction of the fiscal deficit to roughly 3 % of GDP, and public debt capped at 80 % of GDP. Social goals include lowering the poverty rate below 15 % and raising the Human Development Index to a very high level. Environmentally, the plan targets 35 % renewable‑energy share in the national mix by 2030 and a 30 % cut in primary energy consumption through efficiency gains.

Strategic pillars cover modernising the economic fabric, strengthening infrastructure, ensuring energy, water and food security, protecting the environment, and promoting balanced territorial development. Institutional reforms, improved public‑service efficiency, inclusive social policies and better governance are also integral to the plan.
