Tunja officials under investigation for Aguinaldo Boyacense contracting irregularities

The Procuraduría General de la Nación has launched a preliminary investigation into public officials from the Tunja Mayor’s Office regarding potential irregularities in the contracting process for the 71st edition of the Aguinaldo Boyacense 2026.

The investigation focuses on the structuring of preliminary studies and the selection of the contractor for the cultural event. Authorities are examining possible violations of transparency and contractual planning principles, specifically citing a lack of clear rules and precision regarding costs and service quality. The disciplinary body has requested evidence to determine if disciplinary faults occurred.

The Aguinaldo Boyacense is a major seven-day cultural festival in Tunja featuring parades, music, and sporting competitions. The event has a budget of 10,000 million pesos. Local council member Laura Silva previously questioned the procurement process, noting that the bidding period was open for only five calendar days and that the adjudication was scheduled during the same week as atypical elections in the city.
