Kuching school attack: 16-year-old student injured teacher
A 16-year-old student is under investigation following an attack on a teacher at Tunku Putra-HELP International School in Kuching, Sarawak. The incident occurred on the morning of 21 October. According to reports and security footage, the student used a weapon—described in various reports as either a small axe or a penknife—to strike a female teacher, causing hand injuries that required medical attention.
Videos circulating on social media suggest the teenager may have livestreamed the incident using a phone strapped to his head. During the confrontation, a student assisted the teacher in disarming the attacker. The student was detained by police and subsequently released on bail. Authorities are investigating the matter under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon, as well as the Explosives Act 1957, as firecrackers were also found in the student's possession.
Local officials, including the Kuching South Mayor and the Sarawak Minister for Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development, have urged the public to refrain from sharing videos or photographs that identify the minors involved to protect their privacy and dignity. Meanwhile, political representatives have called for a transparent investigation to ensure accountability.
