Tunnel closures reported in Germany and Austria following vehicle fires
Multiple tunnel incidents in Germany and Austria have caused significant traffic disruptions. In Mannheim, Germany, the northern tube of the Fahrlachtunnel has partially reopened following a serious motorcycle accident and subsequent vehicle fire. While traffic is being redirected through the northern tube, the southern tube remains closed due to fire damage and ongoing safety inspections.
In Austria, the Gleinalmtunnel on the A9 experienced a temporary closure after a truck engine caught fire. Although the driver managed to extinguish the flames, the incident triggered a chain reaction involving three other vehicles. No injuries were reported, and the tunnel was reopened following approximately two hours of recovery and cleanup operations.
