Tupamaro movement marks 22 years of political activity in Venezuela

Williams Benavides Rondón, Secretary General of the Movimiento Revolucionario Tupamaro, led a commemoration marking 22 years of the political group. During the event, Benavides called for the strengthening of direct democracy and communal power.

He addressed the historical origins of the party, citing the strategic vision of Hugo Chávez following the 2002 coup attempt and the 2003 oil sabotage. Benavides criticized international efforts to label revolutionary organizations with accusations of terrorism and drug trafficking. He also noted a perceived strategic decline among global allies of the United States, suggesting internal fractures within the current hegemonic bloc.
