Latin American authorities implement diverse security measures

Various regions across Latin America are addressing rising security concerns through different local measures. In Peru, the Municipality of Lima has introduced a Municipal Guard and a Metropolitan Guard through EMAPE. The latter consists of 40 private security agents tasked with protecting municipal infrastructure and works, with Mayor Renzo Reggiardo clarifying that they are not a parallel police force. The city is also implementing a monitoring strategy using drones and cameras to oversee metropolitan roads.

In other parts of Peru, security experts are calling for structural police reforms in response to criminal violence in Trujillo, while residents in Huaraz and Juliaca are demanding increased patrols and better responses to crime. In Panama, residents in the Santiago sugarcane area are calling for increased surveillance and technology, such as cameras, following several disappearances.

In Bolivia, authorities in Tupiza are reporting an uncontainable increase in illegal gold mining, which is impacting the environment and local economy. Meanwhile, in Chile, authorities in Rancagua have conducted operations to close several homes used for sexual commerce in response to community complaints and rising rates of sexually transmitted diseases.
