Turceni energy hub project advances with new feasibility study
The Danish consultancy firm NTU International has been appointed to conduct a feasibility study for an agrivoltaic solar plant and a battery energy storage system in Turceni, Romania. The project, which will cover approximately 123 hectares, is being developed with support from the European Investment Bank (EIB).
This initiative is a component of the broader Regional Energy Hub in Turceni, aimed at supporting decarbonization, strengthening energy security, and promoting sustainable regional development. The project is part of the just transition process for the Oltenia region, which is currently dependent on the coal sector.
The technical assistance provided by NTU International will focus on evaluating the technical, financial, economic, environmental, and social aspects of the project in accordance with Romanian regulations and EIB requirements. The study will also include optimizing the design of the large-scale solar plant to integrate with grazing-based agricultural activities and evaluating battery storage solutions to increase grid flexibility.
