Turceni Thermal Power Plant faces technical shutdown and safety fine
The Turceni Thermal Power Plant's energy group no. 5 was shut down on August 20 due to technical issues. Cristian Bușoi, State Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, announced that repairs are scheduled for Friday and the weekend, with the group expected to reconnect to the national energy system on Monday, August 24, at 15:00. Bușoi stated that the shutdown will not impact supply security or consumer prices.
Separately, the Turceni Thermal Power Plant has been fined 50,000 lei by the Jiu Water Basin Administration. Inspectors found that the facility failed to comply with legal provisions regarding the safe operation of the dam infrastructure associated with the Turceni reservoir. Authorities noted that these regulations are essential to prevent risks to the environment, infrastructure, and downstream communities.
