Turgut Özal’s 1993 ambulance held in private collection

The 1970 Mercedes 230 ambulance used to transport Turkey’s 8th President, Turgut Özal, to Hacettepe University Hospital on April 17, 1993, is currently held in a private collection. Collector Gürsev Gür, who purchased the vehicle in 1999, stated that he was unaware of its historical significance at the time of purchase.

Gür learned of the vehicle's connection to Özal in 2012 during an investigation by the State Audit Board, which was established to examine the circumstances surrounding the President's death. Reports from that investigation noted that the ambulance lacked sufficient medical equipment, containing only a basic stretcher without first aid supplies or medication. Gür noted that the vehicle was an older model and lacked the necessary medical capabilities required for transporting a head of state.
