Turgutlu requires integrated planning for agriculture and industry
Fatih Köse, President of the Düşünce Rotası Association, has called for a comprehensive and coordinated development plan for Turgutlu to address the challenges posed by its growing population and economic activity. While the district is a significant center for agriculture and industry, Köse warns that its growth must be planned to prevent the loss of vital agricultural lands.
Key issues identified include critical deficiencies in energy infrastructure, where recent electricity outages have negatively impacted both industrial facilities and agricultural irrigation. Additionally, the protection of water resources, specifically the Gediz Basin and groundwater, is highlighted as essential for the long-term sustainability of the region's economy.
To maximize economic value, Köse suggests that Turgutlu should move beyond providing raw materials by focusing on processing, branding, and increasing value-added production through cooperation among local actors.
