Turgutlu, Turkey sees surge in six‑leaf fig prices amid harvest

The six‑leaf fig (yediveren incir) grown only in seven neighborhoods of Turgutlu district, Manisa, is in the final phase of its first harvest in the northern hemisphere. Prices peaked at 300‑350 TRY per kilogram in June, fell to about 50 TRY mid‑season as volumes increased, and have risen again to 200‑250 TRY as the harvest winds down. A second harvest is expected to begin in mid‑August.

About a thousand dunams are cultivated, yielding roughly 10,000 tons annually. The fruit is sold locally and exported, with strong demand from Turkish coastal tourism areas and major cities such as Bodrum, Antalya, Istanbul, Ankara and Konya. Producers must deliver their figs to the Turgutlu vegetable and fruit market by 09:00 each morning. Local farmer Salim Çetin highlighted the fruit’s unique honey‑dripping flavor and the growing domestic and foreign demand.
