Turhal Sugar Factory carbon monoxide poisoning gas leak lime furnace Tokat

A gas leak at the Turhal Sugar Factory, operated by Kayseri Şeker in Tokat, has resulted in the poisoning of 45 people. The incident occurred during a routine annual lime burning process when carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide gases leaked from a lime furnace.

Tokat Governor Abdullah Köklü reported that 35 of the affected individuals are in good condition, while 10 are in moderate condition. One patient who had been intubated has since been moved to a moderate state. To ensure proper observation and precaution, eight patients were transferred to Sivas Numune Hospital, with two more expected to follow. Ten people in total are slated to receive advanced oxygen therapy.

The victims include factory fire department personnel and one police officer who was affected while taking security measures in the open air. AFAD and relevant emergency teams are monitoring the situation to prevent further risks.
