Turin hosts 19th International Earth Science Olympiad
The 19th edition of the International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) has commenced in Turin, Italy, running from August 20 to August 27. The event brings together approximately 160 students from over 40 nations, supported by more than 120 mentors and observers from various continents.
The competition combines theoretical testing with practical field research. Participants will engage in activities across Turin and the Western Alps, including a visit to Mont Blanc in the Aosta Valley to observe glacial retreat and collect data. The program aims to foster international cooperation and scientific exchange among secondary school students.
Organized by Anisn Ets in collaboration with the University of Turin's Department of Earth Sciences and supported by the Piedmont Region, the event features 40 institutional partners. The official opening ceremony is scheduled for the morning of Friday, August 21, at the Palazzo della Regione Piemonte.
