Turin: Police operations and student protests mark busy weekend

Law enforcement agencies, including the State Police, Carabinieri, and Guardia di Finanza, conducted extensive security checks in Turin during the Halloween weekend. The operations, focused on nightlife areas such as Borgo Rossini and Piazza Vittorio Veneto, resulted in eight arrests and 18 reports. Authorities identified approximately 1,400 people and inspected over 280 vehicles. Five commercial establishments received administrative sanctions totaling more than 16,500 euros, with the highest fine issued to a venue in via Principe Amedeo for workplace health and safety violations. Additionally, a Brazilian citizen with an international arrest warrant was located during identity checks.

In a separate development, students at the University of Turin held a protest in front of the Rectorate. Demonstrators, including collectives such as Assemblea Cps and Cambiare Rotta, called for a meeting with Rector Cristina Prandi. The protesters expressed opposition to the university’s strategic and economic decisions, specifically criticizing potential agreements with private industrial and defense companies. The group is considering extending their demonstrations to other university locations.
