Turismo Nacional: Vitar and Merlo secure victories in Mendoza

During the tenth round of the 2026 Turismo Nacional championship at the San Martín Autodrome in Mendoza, significant victories were achieved in both the Clase 2 and Clase 3 categories.

In Clase 2, local driver Tomás Vitar secured his third win of the season driving a Nissan March for GR Competición. After starting from pole position and winning his heat, Vitar lost the lead to Exequiel Bastidas at the start but reclaimed the top spot on the fifth lap through an internal maneuver. Vitar was named Piloto del Día for his performance.

In Clase 3, Javier Merlo achieved a major comeback by winning the final and securing his first pole position in four and a half years. Driving a Volkswagen Virtus with Scuderia Prema, Merlo beat Facundo Chapur in qualifying and successfully defended his lead against attacks from drivers like Mauricio Lambiris and Pernía during the race. This victory marks Merlo's second win in the category.
