Venice Simplon Orient Express arrives in Istanbul

The historic Venice Simplon Orient Express, operated by the UK-based company Belmond, has arrived in Istanbul for its second journey of the year. The luxury train departed from Paris on September 25, traveling through Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria before entering Türkiye.

Due to ongoing renovation work at the Kapıkule railway station, the train proceeded to Edirne station for passport controls for its more than 70 passengers and crew. Following the arrival at Bakırköy Station in Istanbul, a welcoming ceremony was held for the passengers.

Train official Francesco Bonotto noted that Istanbul is a vital part of the route, stating, “If there is no Istanbul, then there is no magic or extraordinary nature to this journey.” The train is scheduled to begin its return journey from Bakırköy Station on October 2.
