Gunmen killed one person and injured three passengers during an attempted livestock raid near the Kainuk Game Reserve in Turkana County on September 11, 2026. Security personnel on mobile patrol repelled the suspected bandits, forcing them to retreat into the game reserve.
During the encounter, a male herder, Poisho Loritareng, was found with fatal gunshot wounds to the head. The attackers also opened fire on the Lodwar–Kitale highway, striking two separate vehicles. One passenger in a public service vehicle sustained a critical gunshot wound to the stomach, while two others suffered injuries to their lower body and leg.
