Turkey adjusts customs duties on onion and sunflower seed imports

Turkey has announced adjustments to customs duties for onion and oilseed sunflower imports to ensure food security and stabilize prices. According to a presidential decision published in the Official Gazette, the 5% customs duty on onion imports, which was set to expire on August 31, has been extended until January 31, 2027. This rate is significantly lower than the previous 49.5% duty.

Regarding oilseed sunflower seeds, the 12% customs duty period has been moved forward to begin on October 1 this year, rather than November 30. This adjustment aims to allow oil producers to procure raw materials at appropriate prices. The Ministry of Trade stated that these measures, coordinated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, are intended to prevent speculative price movements, protect domestic producers, and mitigate risks of supply shortages caused by drought in Europe and developments in the Black Sea region.
