Turkey advances cold child crime investigations, arresting newborn killer and reopening missing‑child case

Turkish authorities have made significant progress in two separate cold child crime cases. In Izmit, Emine N. Ö., identified through DNA testing as the mother of a newborn found dead in a trash container in 2007, was arrested in a 2025 operation in Sapanca. She faces a charge of intentional homicide with aggravated life imprisonment, and her case is currently before the 4th Heavy Penal Court in Kocaeli.

Separately, the Justice Ministry has reopened the 2018 disappearance of three‑year‑old Evrim Atış from Turhal, Tokat, after eight years of unresolved investigations. The case, which previously saw the child's parents detained and later released, is being re‑examined for new evidence as part of a broader effort to resolve unsolved murders and missing‑person cases.

Both investigations highlight a renewed focus on addressing previously unsolved child‑related crimes in Turkey.
