Turkey advances diving tourism in Çanakkale and hosts MÜSİAD EXPO

Turkey is focusing on expanding its high-value tourism sector through the ‘Deep Heritage’ project in Çanakkale. The Gelibolu Historical Underwater Park, which features 27 shipwrecks and two reefs, serves as the world’s only underwater park themed around World War I. To preserve these historical sites from corrosion, authorities are utilizing cathodic protection via zinc anodes without physical intervention on the wrecks.

Technical diving in the region is expected to drive significant economic growth, as certified divers typically spend two to three times more daily than standard tourists. The availability of diving at various depths allows for year-round tourism, providing direct economic benefits to local businesses in Çanakkale and Gelibolu.

In a separate economic development, the MÜSİAD EXPO is set to begin, aiming to facilitate at least $5 billion in trade volume. The event expects over 50,000 professional visitors from 114 countries and more than 400 qualified purchasing delegations. Over 300 domestic and international companies from strategic sectors, including industry, energy, and agriculture, will participate in the exhibition.
