Turkey advances education with new school building and curriculum terminology debate

The Corum provincial education directorate announced that construction of a modern, earthquake‑resistant Silimkent TOKİ Primary School is ongoing, with a 12‑classroom building expected to improve safety and learning conditions for local students.

Separately, the Turkish Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin, stated that the term “Kurtuluş Savaşı” (War of Independence) will be replaced by “Millî Mücadele” (National Struggle) in school curricula, arguing that the former term misrepresents the historical context of the Ottoman Empire’s collapse. The minister’s proposal has sparked discussion about how the nation’s founding history is taught.
