Turkey advances global standing in defense industry technology

Turkey has undergone a significant transformation in its defense industry over the last 20 years, evolving from an importer of military products to a global manufacturer. According to an analysis by Al Jazeera, Turkey's defense exports have increased by 103 percent in the last five years, driven by companies such as ASELSAN, TUSAŞ, Baykar, HAVELSAN, and ROKETSAN.

The technological advancements include the development of 5th-generation fighter jets, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and advanced air defense systems. Notably, ASELSAN's ALP 300-G radar, a component of the SİPER long-range air defense system, is reported to possess performance capabilities superior to the search radar used in the Russian-made S-400 system. This radar was developed entirely within Turkey, including its electronic chips.

Other major domestic projects highlighted include the KAAN national combat aircraft, the Çelik Kubbe (Steel Dome) system, and the ATMACA missile. This industrial shift follows a historical trajectory that began after the 1975 arms embargo imposed by the United States.
