Turkey plans 41.5% increase in livestock production support for 2027

Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı announced plans to increase the budget for livestock production support by 41.5% in 2027, aiming for a total of 54.5 billion lira. This follows a 39.5% increase in 2026, which brought support to 38.5 billion lira.

Speaking at the opening of the Genomic Test Center at the Lalahan International Livestock Research and Training Center, Yumaklı emphasized a shift from quantity to quality. He stated that the goal is to utilize science and technology to ensure more efficient, healthy, and high-quality production to bolster food security and rural development.

New measures to support producers include the elimination of vaccine and ear tag fees, which will now be covered by the state. Additionally, compensation for livestock losses due to infectious diseases has been doubled, with calf loss support rising to 20,000 lira and lamb or goat support to 4,000 lira. The Ministry is also working to increase domestic vaccine production capacity and implement digital tracking systems for cattle.
