Turkey agricultural season sees rising citrus volumes and fig oversupply
The Turkish agricultural season is showing varied trends across different fruit categories. The 2026/27 citrus campaign is starting with increased volumes for lemons and pomelos, following a previous season deficit. Lemon production, specifically Meyer and Interdonato varieties, is reported to be high, which is expected to make prices more competitive for buyers. However, exporters face challenges including cautious early-season demand and uncertainties regarding shipments to Russia.
In the fruit sector, Turkish figs are facing an oversupply in the European market. High availability and low prices from Turkey have led to large export volumes, putting downward pressure on prices and dampening demand. While the fig season is winding down, the pomegranate season is starting strongly with sufficient supply expected. Improved post-harvest treatments and storage technologies are allowing the pomegranate marketing window to extend through March or April.
