Turkey alerts university students to rental scams and outlines KYK dormitory application timeline
Real‑estate consultant Kasım Karakaş warned prospective university students moving to Eskişehir that deposit and promissory‑note scams are common in online rental listings. He advised students and families to work only with authorized real‑estate agents, verify landlords’ authority, view properties in person, avoid paying deposits before confirming the lease, and read all contract terms carefully.
The Youth and Sports Ministry’s Kredi Yurtlar Kurumu (KYK) has not yet released the exact dates for the 2026‑2027 dormitory and scholarship applications. Based on the previous year, dormitory applications are expected in early September with results announced mid‑September, while scholarship and loan applications are likely to open in mid‑October with results in early November. Applications are processed through the e‑Devlet portal.
Students are urged to follow these precautions and timelines to prevent financial loss and secure housing and financial aid for the upcoming academic year.
