Turkey allocates 2 billion lira for student education aid

Turkey's Minister of Family and Social Services, Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, announced that approximately 2 billion lira has been allocated to Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundations (SYDV) for the first term of the 2026-2027 academic year. The funds are intended to support students from low-income households by covering various educational expenses.

The assistance program includes providing essential school supplies such as stationery, school uniforms, shoes, and winter clothing. For students not covered by the mobile education system, the funds will also support housing, transportation, and meal costs. Additionally, students preparing for high school and university entrance exams will receive study materials, and support will be provided for participation in social and sporting activities.

University students studying away from their families are eligible for a transportation support program, which provides four bus tickets annually (two round trips). Göktaş noted that since 2021, approximately 6 billion lira has been transferred to SYDVs to support student education needs.
