Turkey and Azerbaijan expand cooperation via Zengezur Corridor
Turkey and Azerbaijan are expanding their strategic partnership through new energy and transport initiatives centered on the Zengezur Corridor.
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced three major electricity projects designed to connect regional grids to Europe. These include a transmission line from Azerbaijan through Nakhchivan to Turkey, a Green Electricity Transmission and Trade Corridor spanning Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, and Bulgaria, and a subsea Black Sea line intended to reach Romania and Hungary. Work has already begun on 330 kilovolt lines within Azerbaijan to facilitate these connections.
Complementing these energy developments, Iğdır University will host the International Caucasus Congress on November 24-25. The event aims to discuss the revitalization of the historic Silk Road and the geopolitical and economic impact of the Zengezur Corridor. The congress will bring together diplomats, academics, and economic officials from Turkey, Azerbaijan, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Iran, and Armenia to evaluate how these corridors can foster regional peace and trade.
