Turkey and Cambodia sign military agreement to boost defense ties

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met in Istanbul to strengthen bilateral ties, resulting in the signing of a military framework agreement. The agreement aims to enhance cooperation in defense and security sectors, with Erdoğan noting Cambodia's interest in Turkish defense industry products.

Both leaders reaffirmed a long-standing goal to increase bilateral trade to $1 billion, a target originally set in 2018. Discussions also covered cooperation in energy, education, culture, and investment. Hun Manet praised Turkey's role in international peace efforts, particularly in the Middle East, while Erdoğan highlighted Cambodia as a significant partner in Southeast Asia.

Additional topics included developmental support provided by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) in Cambodia, focusing on infrastructure and women's empowerment. Erdoğan also expressed support for Cambodia's participation in the Gaza Peace Council and emphasized the importance of resolving border disputes between Cambodia and Thailand through peaceful dialogue and international law.
