Turkey and Central Asian Leaders Advance Energy Projects
EPDK Group President Yardımcı said Turkey is prepared for an energy transition, citing a new oil agreement with Iraq that targets daily production of one million barrels and emphasizing the role of carbon pricing and the Emission Trading System. He noted that sectors such as electricity generation, steel, cement, fertilizer and aluminium will soon be included in the ETS and highlighted the EU’s Border Carbon Adjustment as a key agenda item for Turkey.
At a meeting of Central Asian and Azerbaijani heads of state in the Kyrgyz city of Çolpan‑Ata, Tajik President Imamali Rahman urged the construction of a large, high‑technology oil refinery in the region. He linked the proposal to rising geopolitical tensions, the need for stronger transport corridors, and broader cooperation on energy, digitalisation, and food security among the participating countries.
