Turkey and Egypt sign cooperation agreements in El Alameyn

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met in El Alameyn to strengthen bilateral ties and address regional security. The two nations signed three cooperation documents covering strategic planning, trade amendments under their Free Trade Agreement, and enhanced transport connectivity between Turkey and African coastal countries.

A primary focus of the meeting was the situation in Gaza. Fidan criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies, stating they “trample on human dignity” and provoke the international community. He emphasized that Turkey and Egypt have agreed to take “more serious measures” regarding Gaza and are working closely on a peace plan and humanitarian aid coordination.

Regarding regional stability, both ministers expressed support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Libya and Sudan. Fidan also highlighted the importance of the Mecca Defense Pact, noting its historical significance for regional security, and expressed hope that Egypt would join the alliance. The leaders set a target to increase bilateral trade volume to $15 billion.
