Iraq‑Turkey oil deal aims for over 700,000 barrels daily export
On 1 August 2026 Iraq and Turkey signed a one‑year framework agreement to deepen oil cooperation. The pact extends existing petroleum accords for a year, sets out a draft long‑term framework and targets daily oil exports from the Kerkuk fields of more than 700,000 barrels, with a possible rise to about one million barrels per day.
The deal also calls for expanding the Kerkuk‑Erbil‑Ceyhan pipeline, which currently moves roughly 300‑400 k bpd, to a capacity of around 1‑1.2 million bpd on the Turkish side, and for a new pipeline from Silopi/Habur to Basra. The “Kalkınma Yolu” multi‑purpose corridor for oil, gas and other goods is highlighted as a key component. Iraq’s natural‑gas export potential to Turkey is estimated at about 65 billion m³, supporting Turkey’s goal of supplying gas to 17 million households (later eight million by year‑end). Iraqi Petroleum Minister Basim Hudayyir said the expected export revenues will fund health, education and transport infrastructure, while Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stressed the strategic importance of the agreement for Turkey’s energy security.
