Turkey and Iraq Commit to One‑Million‑Barrel Daily Oil Supply

At a joint press conference in Ankara on 28 July 2026, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan asked Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al‑Zaydi whether Iraq could provide Turkey with one million barrels of oil each day. Al‑Zaydi answered affirmatively, confirming the offer.

The leaders also discussed a wider energy partnership, including plans to extend the Kirkuk‑Jiah crude pipeline, new cooperation agreements in transport, education and water, and the development of a 1,200‑km “development corridor” linking Iraq’s port of Faw to the Turkish border and onward to European markets. A prior MoU with Qatar and the UAE established a joint ministerial mechanism to advance the project.
