Turkey and Japan expand defense and military cooperation
Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler emphasized the strengthening of military and defense ties between Turkey and Japan during a reception held at the Japanese Embassy in Ankara to mark the 72nd anniversary of the Japan Self-Defense Forces.
Güler noted that the historical bond between the two nations, rooted in the late 19th century and the humanitarian solidarity following the Ertuğrul Frigate incident, serves as a foundation for modern relations. He highlighted the necessity of increased dialogue due to a complex global security environment and emerging technological risks.
The Minister pointed to the importance of expanding cooperation in military training, joint exercises, and defense industry collaboration. He noted that increased contact between land, sea, and air forces enhances experience sharing and communication, expressing a desire to further integrate Japan’s advanced technology and engineering with Turkey’s production capacity and field experience.
