Turkey adds high‑capacity Türksat‑Biruni satellite with Qatar partnership
Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that Turkey, together with Qatar's Es'hailSat, will launch a new high‑data‑capacity satellite called Türksat‑Biruni. The satellite, whose name was given by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, will be placed in the 50° East geostationary orbit and will employ Ka‑Band technology to provide up to 50 Gbps of additional capacity. Financed by Qatar, the project will expand Türksat’s service footprint across five regions – the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, Central Asia and Sub‑Saharan Africa – without any transfer of frequency or orbital rights; those rights remain with Turkey and the satellite will be registered with the ITU under the Türksat name.
