Turkey and Romania strengthen ties through trade and municipal cooperation
Turkey and Romania are strengthening their bilateral ties through expanded economic cooperation and municipal partnerships. Dr. Tamer Atalay, Chairman of the Romania-Turkey Chamber of Commerce and Industry, noted that nearly 20,000 Turkish companies are currently operating in Romania, which serves as a strategic gateway to the European Union.
Cultural exchange also plays a significant role in the relationship, with Turkish media and television series gaining substantial popularity among Romanian audiences. This cultural presence has helped foster deeper connections between the two populations.
On a local level, the cities of Şanlıurfa in Turkey and Pitești in Romania have formalized their sister-city relationship with the opening of the ‘Turkey-Romania Friendship Park/Brotherhood Corner’. The ceremony, attended by Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mehmet Kasım Gülpınar and Pitești Mayor Cristian Gentea, included the planting of saplings to symbolize the lasting bond between the two municipalities.
