Turkey and Saudi Arabia ratify renewable energy partnership

Turkey and Saudi Arabia have officially ratified an intergovernmental agreement to develop large-scale renewable energy projects. Following approval by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the agreement was published in the Official Gazette, moving the partnership from political understanding to legal implementation.

The first phase of the project involves the construction of two solar power plants in Turkey, each with a planned capacity of 1,000 megawatts. These plants will be located in the Sivas province and the Taşeli region of Karaman. The total capacity for Phase 1 is set at 2,000 megawatts.

A second phase is planned to develop additional renewable energy projects with a total installed capacity of 3,000 megawatts. The specific sites and electricity sales tariffs for Phase 2 will be determined through future agreements. Under the terms of the deal, Saudi companies will act as developers, and separate project companies will be established in Turkey for each project. The agreements will remain in effect for 30 years from the start of commercial operations.
