Turkey and Syria complete floating bridge over Euphrates

Engineering units from the Turkish armed forces and the Syrian army have completed the construction of a floating military bridge over the Euphrates River in the Al-Majadin region of Deir ez-Zor province. Announced on August 30, 2026, the project involved the Turkish 2nd Engineering Brigade providing specialized equipment and personnel.

The pontoon bridge is intended to facilitate civilian and service movement following the destruction of previous crossings by floods and the long-term loss of the As-Sijasiija bridge. This marks the second joint construction project between the two nations this year, following the Defne Brotherhood Bridge built in July.

Syrian Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra stated the assembly aimed to ‘ease the burdens of the province’s residents,’ while Turkish Ambassador Nuh Yılmaz noted the armies are ‘building a future together also in peace.’ The operation took place despite previous warnings from Israel regarding Turkish troop movements in southern Syria, though no military response was recorded from Israel.
