Turkey and Syria sign higher education cooperation agreement

Turkey and Syria have signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement in the field of higher education and scientific research. A key outcome of the agreement is the planned establishment of a Syria-Turkey University in Damascus.

The agreement, signed by Erol Özvar, President of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), and Mervan El Halebi, Syrian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, includes provisions for student and academic exchanges, joint research projects, and the mutual recognition of academic degrees and diplomas. It also aims to support the digital infrastructure of Syrian universities and facilitate horizontal transfers for students.

Additionally, a joint Syrian-Turkish committee has been formed to address the status of universities in northern Syria. This committee aims to resolve academic and legal issues regarding these institutions before the start of the upcoming academic year to ensure the stability of students' educational paths and the quality of education.
