Turkey and US to redefine global roles by 2027, says official

Burhanettin Duran, Head of the Turkish Presidency's Communications Directorate, stated in New York that 2027 will be a pivotal year for Turkey and the United States to redefine their roles within the shifting international system. Speaking at a seminar ahead of the 81st UN General Assembly, Duran noted that the upcoming centenary of diplomatic relations in 2027 serves as a strategic turning point.

Duran highlighted that while the two nations have faced historical disagreements, such as the Cyprus issue, their relationship has evolved from mere diplomatic cooperation to strategic integration within the security environments of Europe and the Mediterranean. He emphasized that successful alliances require mechanisms to manage such differences through political will and direct leadership dialogue.

Looking forward, Duran suggested that bilateral relations should move beyond crisis management toward new areas of cooperation. Proposed sectors include defense industries, energy, trade, investment, advanced technology, artificial intelligence, science, and critical mineral supply chains.
