Turkey and Uzbekistan expand cultural and tourism cooperation

Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy visited Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to mark the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence and to strengthen bilateral ties. During meetings with Uzbek officials, including Culture Minister Ozodbek Nazarbekov, the two nations agreed to expand cooperation through a 2026-2027 Cultural Cooperation Plan. Key areas of focus include the protection of shared cultural heritage, restoration and conservation expertise, and archaeological collaboration.

In the tourism sector, discussions centered on increasing visitor traffic, strengthening air connections, and developing joint tourism routes connecting Turkish cities with Uzbek destinations like Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, and Tashkent. The parties also discussed sharing Turkey's 'Night Museum' model.

Cultural and artistic cooperation will be furthered through a new memorandum of understanding in music and performing arts, as well as plans for audiovisual and film co-productions. Additionally, the launch of Turkish film days in Uzbekistan and the translation of significant works, such as the Uzbek edition of 'The Thought World of Maturidi,' highlight the deepening intellectual and cinematic ties between the two countries.
