Türkiye education costs rise with new tuition and dormitory fees
New regulations and rising costs for the 2026-2027 academic year have been announced, impacting university tuition and student living expenses in Türkiye. A Presidential decision published in the Official Gazette outlines the contribution shares and tuition fees for distance and second-cycle education. While state-funded first-cycle and open education students will not pay contribution shares, the state's coverage for these costs will increase by 40 percent.
International students will face fees set by universities, which cannot be less than twice the student service cost. Specific rules also apply to students from Northern Cyprus (TRNC), with different fee structures based on their program type. Additionally, exemptions are provided for martyrs' relatives, veterans, and students with disabilities.
Beyond tuition, students face significant increases in ancillary costs. The Diyanet Foundation has implemented a 50 percent increase in dormitory fees, bringing annual costs to 150,000 TL. School shuttle services in major cities like Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir are also seeing sharp rises, with some private school shuttle annual fees reaching up to 250,000 TL. Meanwhile, students await the announcement of the KYK state dormitory application schedule from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
