Turkey announces new security measures for schools
Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi has announced comprehensive security measures for the 2026-2027 academic year to ensure student safety in schools and surrounding areas. A key component of this initiative is a new protocol involving seven different ministries, including Education, Health, and Justice, aimed at maximizing school security.
To implement these measures, the government has planned the deployment of 31,000 school garden staff members across 81 provinces. Additionally, approximately 2,800 hand-held detectors have been distributed to garden staff to facilitate searches in suspicious situations. Security efforts will also include increased police and gendarmerie patrols during school entry and exit hours, heightened monitoring of school surroundings, and intensified inspections of school service vehicles and nearby businesses.
In a separate announcement, Minister Çiftçi detailed the transformation of mobile migration vehicles into migration advisory vehicles. Currently operating in 10 provinces, including Istanbul and Ankara, these vehicles assist international students and disadvantaged groups with administrative tasks such as fingerprinting and address registration. The government aims to expand this service to 40 provinces and increase the fleet to 75 vehicles by the end of the year to support the goal of hosting 1 million international students.
