Turkey announces high-level appointments and university restructuring
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has signed several decrees published in the Official Gazette, resulting in high-level appointments and significant academic restructuring across Turkey.
Key administrative appointments include Coşkun Yılmaz as Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Koçyiğit as President of the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), and Fatih Çakmak as General Manager and Chairman of the State Airports Authority (DHMİ). Additionally, Batuhan Mumcu has been appointed as a member of the BTK Board.
The decrees also mandate changes to the academic structures of several universities. New units are being established, such as the Faculty of Computer and Informatics Sciences at Yıldız Technical University and the Artificial Intelligence Institute at Gebze Technical University. Conversely, several institutes at the Turkey International University of Islam, Science and Technology are being closed, and the Faculty of Applied Sciences at Yıldız Technical University is being dissolved. Other name changes include Batman University’s Islamic Sciences Faculty becoming the Faculty of Theology.
