Turkey appoints Burak Özügergin as ambassador to Denmark in sweeping government reshuffle

On 11 July 2026 Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan signed a decree published in the Resmi Gazete that ordered a large‑scale reshuffle of senior officials. The decree appointed Burak Özügergin as Turkey’s new ambassador to Denmark and listed numerous changes across ministries, regional and provincial directorates, and state agencies. Dismissed officials include the governors of Adıyaman and Giresun provinces and several senior directors in the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the Ministry of National Defence. New appointments cover governors for Amasya, Giresun, Mardin, Şanlıurfa and Yozgat, senior positions in the Nuclear Regulation Authority, the Ministry of Education, and multiple regional directors in the Forest Service and port authorities.

Burak Özügergin, a career diplomat, studied political science and economics at George Mason University and earned a master’s in international law from Johns Hopkins University. He joined the Turkish foreign service in 1985 and has held various diplomatic posts, now taking charge of the embassy in Denmark to strengthen bilateral relations.
